Holiday Residence in Spetses
This coastal residence is situated in Agia Marina, in close proximity to the old port, in the island of Spetses, Greece. Here, what looks like one rambling home is actually a customized compound, designed to fit the needs of a family of five. Nestled amid olive trees and bougainvillea is the main structure, a four bedroom dwelling with innumerable French doors and seductive balconies. Linked to that via connecting doors, interior and exterior staircases, terraces and an interior courtyard, are two smaller, independent domiciles. The residence certainly conforms to the island’s vernacular. Its walls are made of local conglomerate stone either whitened or in its natural color. In addition, the wooden window frames are also made according to the classical Spetsian architectural style, and the roofs feature waves of byzantine clay tiles. Right below the main residence is the pool area, which overlooks the Myrtoan Sea. Adjacent to the pool multiple exterior seating areas are formed. The steep angle of the site allows the design of this residence to unfold in multiple levels creating numerous terraces throughout the entire compound, establishing a continuous dialogue between interior and exterior spaces.
